Compliance pressure continues to increase for foreign business operating in China with an increasingly comprehensive data and cybersecurity regulatory regime. With the 2017 Cybersecurity Law (CSL) as a key legal basis, the Chinese government has updated its requirement that individual “network operators” in China must implement and maintain a Multi-Level Protection Scheme (MLPS) for their networks, which is now referred as MLPS 2.0.
MLPS 2.0 applies to companies in all industries and is not limited to the Internet or IT companies. However, many companies are yet unclear about which compliance measures they have to take.
What is MLPS 2.0? What are the latest regulations? What are the challenges for companies? How do companies carry out MLPS assessments?
