Synthetic biology is the world's third biotechnology revolution, following the discovery of the DNA double helix and the Human Genome Project. The last two enable people to interpretate lives rather than simply recognize them. Synthetic biology has witnessed the transition from life interpretation to its authoring and creation, upending life science in the 21st century.
Similarly, industrialization of synthetic biology has already occurred. Industrialization results in breakthroughs inquantity, quality, and expenditures, spawning new markets such as health food and medical beauty. On the other hand, the original industrial pattern, which was dominated by traditional high energy and high pollution processes, is being innovated as a result of industrialization's low cost, high quality, and environmental claim.
The 2023 Synthetic Biology Carnival (SBC2023), co-organized by the Chinese Society for Microbiology, Shandong University, State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, "Innovation China" Biomedical Industry Technology Service Group and BioValley will be held on April 21-22 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. This carnival will focus on the application of frontier synthetic biotechnology, the rise of new forces, industry policy guidance, and future trends in an effort to promote the coordinated.

Founded on December 18, 1952, the Chinese Society for Microbiology joined the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) in 1980. It has more than 21,000 members and 23 professional committees as well as 6 working committees, covering all branches and fields of microbiology. The Society always upholds the people’s democratic dictatorship, adopts the motto "unity and cooperation, innovation and dedication", and takes an active role in activities such as academic exchanges, international exchanges, scientific popularization, talent recommendation and decision consultation. It has sponsored 7 academic journals, including Acta Microbiologica Sinica, Acta Virologica, Chinese Journal of Zoonoses, Journal of Biological Engineering, Virologica Sinica, Microbiology China and Journal of Microbiology. It established mLife in collaboration with the Institute of Microbiology, CAS. These scholarly publications have contributed in some way to the advancement of this field's academics.
In response to the demands of national economic construction, scientific research, production, and teaching, the Society has conducted a variety of academic exchanges to energize academic ideas, encourage discipline development, and develop young talents since its inception. It organizes and co-organizes over 30 academic conferences in various formats each year.
The year 2022 marked the 70th anniversary of the Society. To commemorate this milestone, the Society launched a number of initiatives under the theme "the 70th Anniversary, the Persistent Pursuit of the Humble Way into Distance" in order to "keep up with the world's scientific and technological frontier, race into the economic battlefield, deal with the major national needs, and strive for the people's life and health." To serve the agriculture and biomedical sectors, four "Innovation China" Biomedical Industry Technology Service Groups have been established, with the "Innovation China" biomedicine branch supported by demonstration projects. Four expert decision-making and consultation groups have been formed to improve the Society's ability to pool knowledge and wisdom and better assist the Party and the government in making scientific decisions.
