Taicang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. It borders Shanghai and faces the Yangtze River. Covering an area of 810 km² with a population of about 1.03 million, it boasts one national-level economic development zone, one provincial-level high-tech park, one national-level first-class port, and one national comprehensive bonded zone.
Located just a 30-minute drive or train ride away from Shanghai, Taicang will be connected to Shanghai via 6 railway lines, including the Minhang-Jiading-Taicang Intercity Railway, which will be operational in 2025, linking Taicang into the entire Shanghai subway system.
Taicang is developing three 100-Billion-RMB-Level industrial clusters, including high-end equipment, advanced materials, and modern logistics & trade. Additionally, aerospace, biomedicine, and cultural tourism are growing at a fast pace. In 2023, the city’s industrial output reached RMB 321 billion. Over 1,700 foreign-invested enterprises are in operation.
Since the settlement of the first German company Kern-Liebers in 1993, Taicang has become home to more than 500 German companies, including Schaeffler, Trumpf, Brose, TÜV Rheinland and German Centre. 90% of them have expanded their production capacity and many companies chose to set up their China HQ, R&D center or sales center here. Taicang has thus earned the recognition as the nation’s first “Cooperation Base for Sino-German Enterprises” and the first “Sino-German demonstration zone for SME cooperation”.
