PANEL DISCUSSION: “Changes and Opportunities”- Chief Economists’ Perspectives

The World Bank’s early 2024 Global Economic Prospects report paints a cautiously optimistic picture about the future: Despite an improvement in near-term prospects, the global outlook remains subdued by historical standards. In 2024-25, growth is set to underperform its 2010s average in nearly 60 percent of economies, comprising over 80 percent of the global population.

Amidst evolving challenges, Fortune will convene a summit with chief economists to dissect economic shifts, pinpointing risks and opportunities. Their insights will arm corporate leaders with a macroeconomic roadmap for strategic decision-making and action.

PANEL DISCUSSION: MNCs’ Strategies in China

Data from the Fortune Global 500 list reveal that China plays a significant role in the global operations of numerous multinationals. As the world’s second-largest economy, China is not only a major manufacturing hub but also the fastest-growing consumer market. This makes it a key growth driver and strategic priority for multinational companies. Some have deepened their engagement in China, moving beyond market expansion to encompass R&D, production, and sales, targeting not just commercial gains but also sustainable, innovative collaborations with domestic entities for shared advancement. As China’s reform and opening-up deepen and the global economy faces fresh challenges, multinationals must also start devising new strategies for the Chinese market.
