Innovation & Entrepreneurship Exchange and Practice
Zhongguancun, as China's first national high-tech industrial development zone and national independent innovation demonstration zone, serves as a test field for deepening the reform of the science and technology system and a flag for innovative development. It is the starting point for China's technological innovation, the source of original innovation, and the main front for independent innovation. Originating from the "Electronics Street" that emerged in Haidian District, Beijing, in the early 1980s, Zhongguancun has, over the past 40-plus years, Zhongguancun has established a development pattern of ‘One Zone and Sixteen Science Parks’, and constructed 40 special industrial parks, and developed into a high-end industrial functional zone spanning administrative regions, boasting 19,600 national high-tech enterprises. In 2023, the total revenue of the Zhongguancun will be $8.7 trillion, accounting for one-sixth of the total revenue of China's high-tech industrial development zones. Currently, Zhongguancun is striving to become a world-leading science and technology park, serving as the main front for the construction of Beijing's international science and technology innovation center, a breakthrough point for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, a leader in China's high-quality development, and a key hub in the global innovation network.
Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone Exhibition Center is a platform and window for showcasing Zhongguancun's achievements in independent innovation, as well as an important science popularization base in Beijing. Located in the northern part of Haidian Park, the exhibition hall covers 16,000 square meters. As a public service platform for promoting the demonstration, application, and transformation of Zhongguancun's technological innovations, the Exhibition Center has become a window for the world to understand Zhongguancun.
Women's Cultural Exchange and Practice
Panjiayuan, located in the Dongcheng District of Beijing, is a unique landmark that blends cultural heritage, historical depth, and modern commerce. Famous for its renowned flea market, the market spans 48,500 square meters. It is not only a hub for antique art and collectibles but also an important platform for promoting Chinese traditional culture and facilitating international cultural exchange. Panjiayuan attracts around 500,000 foreign visitors annually, becoming a significant place for them to engage with Chinese cultural heritage and art. Many foreign dignitaries have visited for cultural exchange activities. In 2004, Panjiayuan was voted one of China’s "Top Ten Antique Markets" at the "First Annual China Collectors' Awards." Panjiayuan has become a carrier of regional culture, a distinctive cultural symbol, and an intangible asset in the treasure trove of Chinese cultural heritage.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Exchange and Practice
Women's Cultural Exchange and Practice
Welcome everyone to Beijing, China, to participate in the APEC Workshop on Women in STEM: Study and Exchange on Rewards, Incentives and Policies to Promote Innovation Development. With enthusiasm and anticipation, we gather in this ancient yet vibrant city to jointly write a new chapter in supporting women's participation in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship across the Asia-Pacific region.
In our current era, scientific and technological innovation has become the core driving force for economic and social development. However, in the wave of scientific and technological innovation, women's voices and contributions still need to be more fully recognized and explored. This seminar aims to establish a platform where we can jointly explore ways to further promote women's participation in scientific and technological innovation, fostering gender equality and the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation.
In the next two days, we will conduct in-depth discussions and exchanges around the theme of women's participation in scientific and technological innovation. We will share our experiences and practices in advancing women's participation in this field, explore existing challenges and opportunities, and jointly seek solutions. Our discussions will cover various aspects such as policy support, incentive mechanisms, and career development, aiming to formulate a series of actionable and influential policy recommendations and practical initiatives.
I believe that through in-depth exchanges and cooperation at this seminar, we will be able to further build consensus and drive more remarkable progress in the field of women's scientific and technological innovation among APEC member economies. We will work together to create a more equitable, inclusive, and innovative development environment for women in science and technology, allowing them to shine more brightly on the stage of scientific and technological innovation.
