China’s increased scrutiny in data protection matters has raised attention and concerns in the foreign business community over the previous years. 2024 has brought new developments: On the one hand, first Chinese judgments for unlawful cross-border data transfer have been issued. On the other hand, new regulations for cross-border data transfer were put in place that came along with some relaxations for especially small and medium size companies. Meanwhile, German companies in China increasingly face the challenge of navigating the need to comply with both Chinese data regulations and European mandates. Finally, more and more information requests regarding Chinese data are being imposed by foreign customers and certification providers, adding up to the companies' challenging situation.

This seminar will provide practical practices on handling data protection processes companies in China, including data outbound transfer to foreign headquarters.
