The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced the approval of the first batch of China Certified Emission Reduction (CCER) credits, (marking a key step in reviving the country’s voluntary carbon offset market.)
A total of nine projects were approved, all of which are offshore wind or solar thermal power projects.
The approved projects have issued 9.28 million tons of CCER credits, and they are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.59 million tons per year over the next ten years.
The CCER mechanism allows eligible green projects to certify their avoided emissions and sell them as carbon offset credits.
