As China moves towards sustainable development with its “Dual Carbon” targets, the Circular Economy is coming into the spotlight. German companies, with their long-standing experience and advanced technologies in circular economy practices, are well-positioned to play a significant role in China’s evolving Circular Economy. Germany and China also jointly engage on this topic with the “Strategic Dialogue on Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency”.
To enrich the discourse on the Circular Economy and to contribute to the further engagement between German and Chinese corporate and government stakeholders we compiled a White Paper. It adds German business perspectives and current projects to the discussion from fields such as remanufacturing, battery recycling, chemical recycling, and waste management. For each area we added current challenges and recommendation how the Chinese government can better facilitate German companies’ contribution.
Our take:
We welcome China’s commitment to green development and the enhanced focus on the Circular Economy. This offers a lot of untapped potential for German companies in China to contribute to China’s evolving Circular Economy as well as for cooperation projects with Chinese companies where both sides can equally benefit. Dialogue between both the Chinese and German governments is necessary to pave the way for future cooperation on the ground.
