Event Background


In April 2024, German Chancellor Scholz and his delegation commenced their China visit in Chongqing. The visit included meetings with local German companies and joint projects with Chinese companies, showcasing Chongqing's significant economic and technological advancements. As a key inland city, Chongqing's achievements have opened extensive cooperation opportunities between Germany and China, which both nations are actively pursuing.


To promote practical cooperation between China and Germany to encourage the exchange and investment of German advanced manufacturing enterprises in Chongqing, the Xplore China – Chongqing event, co-hosted by Chongqing Economic and Information Commission and China CITIC Bank Chongqing Branch, and co-organized by the AHK Greater China and Siemens Ltd., China, will be held in Chongqing on November 11 and 12. The event is entitled, Sino-German Cooperation – Meeting (Yu) the Future[1]. The event is aimed at building a platform for economic and trade cooperation between Chongqing and Germany, supporting industries, serving localities, guiding the sustainable development of the manufacturing industry, and helping to promote the construction of the "33618" modern manufacturing cluster system[2] in Chongqing. It is intended to be an important bilateral activity for developing economic and trade relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Germany as well as promoting the joint development of Chongqing and German advanced manufacturing industry.

The Potential of Chongqing 


Chongqing is located in western China, on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.  It has an area of 82,400 km² and a resident population of 31,914,300. As the only centrally administered municipality in central-western China, Chongqing is a major economic center and an important center of the advanced manufacturing industry along the Yangtze River. Located at the intersection of the Belt and Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, Chongqing is a crucial strategic fulcrum for western China's development and serves as a comprehensive hub for a new international land-sea trade corridor. 


Chongqing has a well-established industrial system and is a significant intelligent and connected new energy vehicles production base, an important industrial robots and intelligent manufacturing equipment industry base and is also the largest biomedical R&D and production base in western China. In 2023, its regional GDP was 3014.579 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1% over the previous year.

Field Trip Routes


Route 1: Intelligent Networked New Energy Vehicles Industry

Location 1: SERES Automobile Super Factory (Liangjiang New District)

SERES, founded in 1986, is a technology-driven manufacturing enterprise with a primary focus on New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). It is currently listed on the A-share market and has 20,000 employees, ranking among the top 500 Chinese enterprises. SERES’ primary focus includes R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and aftersales services for NEVs, with a special emphasis on e-powertrain components (battery, electric drive units, and electric control systems), as well as traditional gasoline engine vehicles and core component assemblies. The company's main products include high-end smart new energy vehicles (AITO, SERES), electric commercial vehicles (RICHI), SUVs, and others. The company has leading intelligent manufacturing capabilities and exports to more than 70 countries and regions worldwide, including Germany and other European countries.

Location 2: Changan Global Research and Develop Center (Jiangbei District)

Changan Global Research and Develop Center is a state-of-the-art facility with a 4.3-billion-yuan investment, covering over 1,000 acres. It features seven major functions and houses 180 laboratories focusing on hybrid power, air conditioning systems, non-metallic materials, and more. Changan Automobile's "Dubhe" strategy launched aims to transform the company into an intelligent mobility technology company through the "4+1" plan, leveraging technologies in intelligent driving, intelligent connectivity, and intelligent interaction. Over 200 intelligent technologies across these three areas have been mastered, with over 70 intelligent functions incorporated into mass-produced models. Changan has achieved China's first L4-level autonomous driving demonstration operation on open roads and the country's first L3-level autonomous driving mass production experience. The company is also the first "National Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Enterprise" in the Chinese automotive industry.

Route 2: Advanced Materials industry

  • Location 1: CNCEC Hualu New Materials Co., Ltd. (Changshou District)

CNCEC Hualu New Materials Co., Ltd. is a new material company established in 2020 under Sinochem Hualu Engineering Science and Technology Co., Ltd. They specialize in silicon-based nano aerogel composites with an annual production capacity of 300,000 square meters. The company’s production base covers nearly 1,000 acres and utilizes supercritical carbon dioxide drying method for aerogel technology. This project is a leading demonstration project in terms of scale, technology, products, and automation in China.

  • Location 2: BASF wholly-owned production site for MDI (Changshou District)

BASF is the world's largest chemical manufacturer with more than 160 wholly owned subsidiaries or joint ventures in 41 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and is headquartered in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. The company recently earned the 134thspoton the2021 Fortune 500 list. As an important foreign-invested enterprise in China's chemical industry, BASFhas invested heavily in several key projects located in Nanjing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Zhanjiang, with production bases throughout the country. Notably, BASF Shanghai Innovation Park serves asthe company’sworldwide R&D hub. Currently, Greater China represents the third largest market for BASF globally, following only Germany and the United States.

Route 3: Intelligent Equipment industry

  • Location 1: Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems Chongqing Factory (Jiulongpo District)

Located in Jiulongpo District of Chongqing City, Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. was established in March 2021 by the Bosch Group and Qingling Group. With Bosch’s advantage in fuel cell R&D and production, the company is committed to bringing leading hydrogen powertrain solutions to the Chinese market. To date, the company’s fuel cell power module products can cover all typical scenarios of commercial vehicles including urban mobility, logistics, as well as medium- and heavy-duty long-distance transportation.

  • Location 2: Chongqing Sino-German Intelligent Equipment Industrial Park (Yongchuan District)

Yongchuan has been recognized as a national new-type industrialization industrial demonstration base (equipment manufacturing) by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as well as a national industrial robot high-tech industrialization base by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The production and sales of CNC machine tools and parts accounted for one-third of the total in Chongqing. In 2019, the Chongqing Sino-German Intelligent Equipment Industrial Park was established and has since attracted renowned enterprises suchas SW Machine, Liebherr, HuazhongCNC, Taizheng Precision, Parsons, and Pacific Engineering Corporation. This has resulted in the creation of a preliminary industrial ecosystem consisting of complete machines, key components, as well as public technology R&D, testing, and service platforms.

Route 4: Smart Logistics industry

  • Location 1: Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park - Chongqing Inland International Logistics Hub Exhibition Center (Shapingba District)

The Chongqing Inland International Logistics Hub Exhibition Center is located in Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, covering an area of 2.7 hectares. The center aims to showcase Chongqing's achievements and future vision of becoming an "international logistics hub and inland opening-up highland". The exhibition area covers a total of 3,132 square meters, featuring eight sections that demonstrate the transformation of Chongqing from an inland city to a hub of opening-up. It includes conference rooms, reception areas, and recreational spaces. The center highlights the importance of logistics, economy, and trade in empowering industry development and showcasing Chongqing as a hub city.

  • Location 2: Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park - Chongqing Railway Port (Shapingba District)

Chongqing Railway Port is located in Tuanjiecun, Shapingba District. It was approved for temporary opening on December 25, 2013. It is currently the only large-scale and normalized international railway mail transport port in China, the first port for imported drugs and biological products in central and western China, and the first port for imported complete vehicles in western inland China. It has established four designated cargo ports for complete vehicles, meat, drugs, and international mail exchange.

Route 5: Biomedical industry

  • Location 1:  Chongqing International Biological Park - Chongqing Bovax Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Banan District)

Chongqing Bovax Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is a cutting-edge enterprise dedicated to the research, development, and industrialization of recombinant protein vaccines and drugs. Established in 2016 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Bovax Biotechnology, it has invested in the construction of a preventive recombinant protein vaccine industrial park. The company has mastered the international advanced VLPs technology applied in the development of prophylactic vaccines and therapeutic drugs for cancers and infectious diseases such as HPV, HFMD, and Norovirus vaccines. Chongqing Bovax has plans for expansion with a total investment of RMB 4 billion, establishing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified vaccine production lines with an annual capacity of 12 million doses. The company also holds the "Drug Manufacturing Certificate" issued by the Chongqing Municipal Medical Products Administration.

  • Location 2: Chongqing International Biological Park - Chongqing Genrix Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Banan District)

Chongqing Genrix Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is an innovative enterprise founded in 2015, specializing in antibody drug discovery technology. The company focuses on auto-immune diseases, infectious diseases, and oncology, engaging in research and development, production, and commercialization of antibody drugs such as monoclonal antibodies and fusion proteins to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases. The company has initiated preclinical studies on multiple proprietary antibody drugs and biosimilar drugs and obtained clinical approval for recombinant anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody injection making it Chongqing's first monoclonal antibody drug. Genrix Bio has established a 111,500-square-meter industrialization base with GMP certification to support the industrialization of innovative antibody projects. With a core team boasting over a decade of experience in biopharmaceuticals, Genrix Bio has established itself as a modern, high-tech biopharmaceutical enterprise emphasizing quality.

  • Location 3: Zein Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Science City)

Zein Biotechnology Co., Ltd., founded in 2001, is a national high-tech enterprise that integrates pharmaceutical research and development, manufacturing, sales, and health services. The company focuses on building a drug lifecycle management service system that provides services such as research and development, manufacturing, transaction promotion, and post-market research. With over 20 core experts and more than 50 ongoing projects covering different fields such as pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, and traditional Chinese medicine, Zein has accumulated 46 production approvals, 117 patents, and 666 authorized trademarks. The company's key products include Orlistat capsules, Donepezil hydrochloride tablets, and Ropinolo hydrochloride tablets. Zein has exported raw materials to over 40 countries and regions and has established project cooperation with well-known domestic and foreign biopharmaceutical enterprises.
