Tongji University School of Automotive Studies
School of Automotive Studies of Tongji University was founded in 2002. With the deep cross and integration between transportation, design & innovation, material science, and other disciplines, School of Automotive Studies cultivates high-level professionals. For automotive, power, and transportation industries, the school relies on three engineering disciplines including automotive engineering, power machinery and engineering, and vehicle operation engineering, and focuses on the needs of professionals in clean energy vehicles and intelligent vehicles. The direction of education and research includes automotive engineering, automotive electronics, bodywork and aerodynamics, test technology, clean energy vehicle power system, automobile safety & intelligent driving, automobile product management & marketing, and etc. With bilingual education including German and English, a complete set of talents cultivation system of Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. is built.
School of Automotive Studies focuses on new energy vehicles and smart driving vehicles, relying on the three national science and innovation platforms of the Fuel Cell Vehicle and Power System Engineering Technology Center of the Intelligent New Energy Vehicle Collaborative Innovation Center, and the National Engineering Laboratory of New Energy Vehicles and Power Systems; Three international science and technology innovation platforms of the German Joint Research Center for Electric Vehicle Technology, the Sino-Swiss Road Traffic Safety Research Center, the University Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base; the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for New Energy Vehicles, and the Shanghai Transportation Air and Thermal Simulation Wind Tunnel. The key laboratories and the three provincial and ministerial science and innovation platforms of the Shanghai Electric Vehicle Engineering Technology Research Center actively carry out cutting-edge scientific research, forward-looking technology research and development, and major product development, and strive to pursue world-class academic influence and competitiveness. Graduates of Automotive College are widely active in automotive-related industries and have made outstanding achievements in personnel training.
lFS, Institute of Automotive Engineering, University of Stuttgart
The Institute of Automotive Engineering Stuttgart, IFS, is part of the Faculty of Design, Production, and Automotive Engineering at the University of Stuttgart and is engaged in research and teaching in the field of automotive and powertrain engineering. In cooperation with FKFS, Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Powertrain Systems Stuttgart, basic university research is combined with applied contract research. IFS conducts a number of research projects, publicly funded, or run in cooperation with companies and associations. The institute was founded in 1930 and today houses three chairs with about 80 employees.
In addition, IFS runs an undergraduate program in Automotive Engineering (FT). In the bachelor's program, students are initially offered basic knowledge in the natural sciences and engineering as well as initial vehicle technology fundamentals. In the master's program, students can then choose to specialize in up to two of the four vehicle topics offered by the departments. Topics such as alternative fuels, aerodynamics, and acoustics are covered. Electrification of the vehicle and the function of control units and software are also part of the courses. (The automation and networking of vehicles have already been covered in FT lectures for several years. Due to its increased importance, the master's program FT has dedicated a new specialization subject to this topic since the winter semester 2017/2018. Under the leadership of the IFS and the Institute for Automation Technology and Software Systems, IAS, a cross-faculty lecture program was developed for this purpose.)
Furthermore, IFS is home to the Racing Team and the GreenTeam of the University of Stuttgart, which participate very successfully in the international student Formula Student competition. For this purpose, new competition vehicles are developed, designed, built, and finally driven in competitions every year according to adapted regulations.
