Under the brand 'Messer - Gases for Life', the company offers gases and services in Asia, Europe and America. Messer's 'Gases for Life' are used in industry, environmental protection, medicine, the food industry, the electronics industry, welding and cutting technology, 3D printing, construction, research and science. Messer offers one of the largest product portfolios on the market and develops application technologies for gases in state-of-the-art competence centers. 'Gases for Life' are as important as water and electricity in most industrial processes and can play a significant role in their decarbonization.  The company was founded in 1898 and is majority-owned by the Messer family. In 2023, Messer generated consolidated sales of approx. 4.4 billion euros. 

In 1995, the first joint venture of Messer in China received its business license. Today, Messer has set up 19 wholly-owned enterprises and 19 joint ventures in the country,  involving a total investment exceeding 1.6 billion US dollars. In China, Messer has operated over 50 air separation units, 4 carbon dioxide plants, 8 hydrogen plants, 5 noble gas facilities, 4 specialty gases centers, 3 electronic gas plant and 17 filling stations. Messer has become the premier supplier of choice for many leading companies in the industries in China.

Sichuan Messer (SMG) was founded in 1996. As a sole-invested company by Messer China, its main business is to supply industrial gases to the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone customers of electronics industry. Also its gas products are widely used in the other industries and medical institutes in Sichuan market. After nearly 30 years development, SMG has become the main industrial gas supplier in the area.
