THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS COUNSELOR SUMMIT

 BACKGROUND

With the trend of education globalization and the rapid development of international schools in China,  College/University Counseling Department has become the essential part of school operation mechanism and sustainable development. The role of counsellor is to act as a "life planner", helping students to know themselves and become better ones step by step.

In late 2019 and early 2020, a sudden outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19)hit in Wuhan, then spread across the country. In late February, China's neighboring countries, even Europe, the United States and the Middle East, are hardly escape from the serious impact from The "black swan event”. The escalating novel coronavirus outbreak brings great lash and influence on various industries. Many countries have taken corresponding measures as a matter of epidemic prevention. Concerning  College/university Counseling industry, since some exams for applicants like IELTS, GRE,  TOEFL, SAT are directly canceled in China and other surrounding countries, students are losing opportunities to get higher scores. There is no doubt that online teaching, as a new method, as well as the changes in the  college interview and admissions process, has increased both the psychological and time pressure for the prospective candidates this year. In addition, visa application has either been delayed or suspended in some countries. Quite a number of extra curriculum activitiesand competitions are accordingly postponed or directly canceled. Overseas summer camps are most likely to be affected by the shrinking summer vacation...

Students need to stay calm and improve their time planning and management capability in respond to the uncertainty and potential risks generated by the public health emergence. Meanwhile, counsellors are required to timely collect and analyse the latest admission policies and procedures, changes in standardized examinations, etc., in order totake quick action. Everyone who involved in this industry has responsibility to work together to confront the challenges , to assist students with universities/college application, and more importantly, to move forward the development of Chinese international schools forward at this tough time.

As a role of exchange platform, thousands of universities/college application counsellors from home and abroad have benefited from the event so far.  In this year, the 5th International School Counselors Summit (ISCS 2020) will be organized on June 13-14 in The Affiliated Foreign Language School of SCNU, Guangzhou. Under the theme of‘Collaborative Effort, Joint Future’, ISCS2020 is estimated to attract around 200 counsellors and industrial experts with the aim to exchange ideas, address the hot issues, and to explore precise resources for students.
